Sync Notes on the Same Wi-Fi Network

How ThrowNotes keeps a home note in sync across devices that share one public IP—including many extender and mesh setups.

One scratchpad for devices nearby

Want the same note on your phone and laptop without installing anything? Open ThrowNotes on both. The home note autosaves and can show up on the other browser when both look like they share the same public IP.

Day to day that feels like “same Wi-Fi sync.” Under the hood, matching follows the public IP—not a private scan of your network name.

Extenders and mesh

Phone on the extender, laptop on the main router? Usually fine, as long as both still leave the house through the same public address from your ISP.

Guest Wi-Fi, a VPN, a hotspot, or a second internet path can break the match. Open thrownotes.me on both devices and check before you depend on it.

Handy at home

  • Paste a link on the laptop, grab it on the phone.
  • Keep a short meeting scratchpad nearby.
  • Move a checklist between browsers in the same house.
  • Skip emailing yourself non-sensitive text.

The privacy catch

Anyone who appears to share that public IP may see the same note. Cafés, campuses, some apartment ISPs, and VPNs can put strangers behind one address.

Treat it as convenient, not private. Sign in for account rooms when the note should stay yours. Use a share link when someone elsewhere should open it on purpose.

Frequently asked questions

Does ThrowNotes sync over my local Wi-Fi?

It matches on your public IP, which usually behaves like same-Wi-Fi sync at home, but it is not a private scan of your local network.

Will it work with a mesh system or Wi-Fi extender?

Usually yes, as long as every device still leaves through the same public IP from your ISP.

Why don't my devices sync on guest Wi-Fi?

Guest networks, VPNs, and hotspots can use a different public IP, which breaks the match.
